Rampage fall to IceHogs at home

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Rampage fell 4-2 to the Rockford IceHogs in front of an announced crowd of 3,592 fans at the AT&T Center on Wednesday night.

The loss saw the Silver and Black’s playoff chances take a huge hit as they fell six points behind the Texas Stars with four games remaining.

An action-packed first period saw four goals scored, two from each team. Rockford opened the scoring just over four minutes into the game when Matthew Highmore took the pass from Tanner Kero and beat Rampage goaltender Spencer Martin over his glove to put the visitors up a goal. San Antonio answered back with Michael Joly’s third of the season off the feed from Rocco Grimaldi just over two minutes later to make it 1-1.

San Antonio took the lead off a scramble for the puck that saw Tommy Vannelli’s shot from the point beat Rockford goaltender Collin Delia at 8:21. The IceHogs responded late in the opening frame with a goal from Lance Bouma to tie the game up 2-2 going into the second period.

The middle frame saw Rockford score the lone goal as William Pelletier beat Martin with a wrist shot at the 3:08 mark of the frame. Despite both teams getting 10 shots apiece in the period, the IceHogs took the lead into the final frame. Pelletier added an empty-net tally in the final frame to seal the 4-2 win over the Rampage.

The Rampage are now 33-28-10-0 on the season and will return to the ice on Friday night when they open a two-game series with the Cleveland Monsters (23-38-7-3) at Quicken Loans Arena at 6 p.m. CST.
