Highlights:
AT&T Center – The San Antonio Rampage were happy they got to play the Milwaukee Admirals less than 24 hours after their season opening defeat. Unfortunately, Sunday’s game looked exactly like the night before – ending in the same result.
Rocco Grimaldi scored his first goal of the season, but the Rampage fell 2-1 in front of 3,919 fans at the AT&T Center to end opening weekend without a win.
“I thought we shot a lot more pucks to the net,” Rampage coach Eric Veilleux said. “You can’t score goals if you don’t shoot, we had cracks at rebounds. Honestly, I thought we deserved to win today.”
Much like Saturday night, the visitors got on the scoreboard first. Justin Florek netted home a shot past San Antonio net minder Spencer Martin at 8:44 of the opening period.
The Rampage evened things up in the middle frame when Grimaldi beat Milwaukee goaltender Juuse Saros to tie the game up 1-1 after two periods of play.
Deja vu was experienced when the visitors took the lead for good, much like they did the previous night. Adam Payerl put Milwaukee up for good with a goal with 7:28 remaining in regulation.
“Both games were there to be won,” Grimaldi said. “Our power play is something we need to work on, little details we need to clean up.”
Up next: The Rampage are now 0-2-0-0 (0 points) on the season and will return to the ice next Saturday when they welcome the Chicago Wolves to the AT&T Center at 7 p.m.
