Rampage edge Stars in wild game in Austin

The San Antonio Rampage earned a 6-5 win over their in-state rivals Texas Stars to close out the road portion of their 2015-16 season inside the Cedar Park Center on Wednesday evening.

San Antonio took a two-goal lead off tallies from Reid Petryk and Garry Nunn nearly eight minutes into the contest. Texas answered with two goals of their own from Cory Kane and Derek Hulak to knot the score at 2-2 after the first 20 minutes.

Texas took the lead when former Rampage captain Greg Rallo beat Reto Berra for a power play goal at 8:59. San Antonio fought back with a Mikko Rantanen goal 14 seconds later, which is his 60th point of the season. Brandon Gormley gave the Silver and Black the lead right back with his fourth goal of the year. The Stars tied the game once again when Curtis McKenzie, but Taylor Beck gave the Rampage a 5-4 lead before the frame ended.

The Stars knotted the game at five goals apiece with McKenzie’s short-handed goal in the third period and forced overtime.
