The San Antonio Rampage have had recent success against their in-state rivals and things did not change on Tuesday night.

Goaltender Dan Ellis stopped all but two shots he faced as the Rampage defeated the Texas Stars (19-15-10-1, 49 points) 3-2 in a shootout in front of 3,530 fans inside the Cedar Park Center on Tuesday night.

Texas lit the lamp early as Gemel Smith sent a shot from the slot to beat Ellis, giving the Stars an early 1-0 lead at 3:43 of the opening period. Connor Brickley tied the game with a shot from the blue line to beat Texas netminder Anders Lindback as we headed to the second period all even at a goal apiece.

The Stars took back the lead when Justin Dowling beat Ellis with a one-timer on the power-play to give Texas the 2-1 lead going into the third and final period of play.

San Antonio tied the game just 38 seconds into the third period as Texas turned the puck over and Rocco Grimaldi converted on a shot to even the score 2-2, forcing the game into overtime. The Silver and Black outshot the Stars 6-3 in the extra frame, but neither team could find the back of the net and the game would be decided in a shootout.

Vincent Trocheck and Grimaldi scored in the skills competition and Ellis stopped both Texas shooters to seal the 3-2 shootout win for the Rampage.

Ellis stopped 32 of 34 shots he faced, while Lindback made 40 saves on 42 San Antonio shots. Texas was 1-for-3 on the power play, while San Antonio could not convert on five man advantage chances.

The Rampage are now 26-14-4-0 (56 points) on the season and will return to the ice on Thursday when they face the Texas Stars on Pink in the Rink night at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
