The San Antonio Rampage came forced overtime, but fell 3-2 to the Rockford IceHogs in front of 3,606 fans inside the BMO Harris Bank Center on Wednesday evening. The loss was the fourth straight for the Silver and Black.
San Antonio lit the lamp just before the first period ended when Troy Bourke beat Rockford netminder Michael Leighton at 19:08 to put the Rampage up 1-0 going into the second period. The tally was the second of the season for Bourke.
In the middle frame, Rockford was aggressive and their worked paid off. Jeremy Morin tied the game with a power play goal at 11:14 and Dennis Rasmussen put the IceHogs up 2-1 with a shot over the glove of Rampage goaltender Calvin Pickard with under 30 seconds to go in the period.
Michael Schumacher forced overtime as the Rampage scored the lone goal of the third period at 15:20 off a feed from Colin Smith making it a 2-2 game.
In the extra period, Erik Gustafsson put home the game-winner with a power play tally at 3:52 as the IceHogs earned a 3-2 win.
Pickard made 34 saves on 37 shots and Leighton stopped 26 of 28 Rampage shots he faced. Rockford outshot San Antonio 38-26, including 15-7 in the middle frame. The Rampage failed to convert on their lone power play chance, while the IceHogs were 2-for-5 with the man advantage.
The Rampage are now 9-3-7-0 (24 points) on the season and will return to the ice on Saturday when they face the Chicago Wolves at 7 p.m. inside Allstate Arena.
