In a strong 2020 football campaign that had its challenges, the UTSA Roadrunners under first-year head coach Jeff Traylor rose to the occasion. Tasked to finish strong with a “November to Remember”, the team did just that. They qualified for a bowl game and narrowly missed the Conference USA Championship Game.
“The [UTSA] brand is hot right now,” Traylor said at the time. After receiving zero all-conference team nods last year, the brand is still cooking going into the fall.

On Monday morning, a pair of players from the 2-1-0 were announced as players to watch for two more national awards. In a press release from the university, junior running back Sincere McCormick was named to the Maxwell Award watch list. Junior safety Rashad Wisdom was named to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list. The Maxwell Award, also known as the College Player of the Year, is awarded by head coaches and the award committee to the best college player. The Chuck Bednarik Award is determined by the Maxwell Football Club, going to the best defensive player in college football.
For McCormick, the watch list is his fourth preseason accolade. He the Preseason All-Texas College Team and Best Running Back categories by Dave Campbell’s Football and was named to the first-team all-conference by Athlon Sports and Phil Steele. The former Judson Rocket set the UTSA single-season rushing record last year with 1,467 yards.
Wisdom has also heard his name in several preseason lists this offseason, joining McCormick on the first-team all-conference lists with Athlon Sports and Phil Steele, and the All-Texas Preseason College Football Team. He led the Roadrunner defense with 60 solo tackles last season.

The preseason honors have been pouring in this year, with great things expected from the UTSA Roadrunners in Conference USA. A total of 14 players were tabbed for preseason all-conference teams by Phil Steele, five made Dave Campbell’s Texas Football preseason teams, and kicker Lucas Dean joins McCormick as preseason second-team All-Americans.
