ARLINGTON – The University of the Incarnate Word suffered a 61-48 loss to the UT-Arlington Lady Mavericks in front of 1,671 fans at College Park Center on Saturday afternoon.

The defeat was the second straight for the Cardinals, who scored just 35 points in their season opening loss to Oklahoma State on Friday. UIW played a better game on Saturday, sticking with the Lady Mavericks until the final quarter of play.

Quincy Baker led the Cardinals with nine points on 2-of-4 shooting from the field. Senior guard Haley Frias added eight points as did freshman guard Imani Robinson.

UT-Arlington (1-0) pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring UIW 20-12 in the period and went on a 7-3 run to take a 51-41 lead. The Cardinals would score just seven points the rest of the way as the Lady Mavericks outscored them 10-7.

The Lady Mavericks were led by senior Rebekah VanDijk’s 11 points and nine rebounds. Crystal Allen chipped in nine points for UT-Arlington, who shot 44 percent in the final period to grab the win.
