The Florida Panthers acquired C Corban Knight from the Calgary Flames on Friday night.

It was a trade that surprised and angered many. A little over 24 hours later, the news is still surprising as fans seem to make a understanding of the news.

Late Friday night Florida Panthers General Manager announced the team has traded center Drew Shore to the Calgary Flames in exchange for center Corban Knight.

“Drew’s play, professionalism, leadership and attitude in San Antonio all warranted an opportunity to compete right now for a spot in the National Hockey League and we’re happy that he will get an opportunity to do that in a great organization like Calgary,” said San Antonio Rampage General Manager Eric Joyce. “On the flip side, we’re extremely excited to add a player of Corban Knight’s caliber. As a draft pick of the Florida Panthers this is a home coming of sorts for him and he adds size, speed, grit and finish on the wing.”

Shore played all season with the Rampage and the trade will give him the change to play in the NHL, something he would not have been able to do with Florida.

Knight has played 92 games in the AHL with the Abbotsford Heat (2013-14) and Adirondack Flames (2014-15). He scored 26 goals and tallied 30 assists.

The Rampage are currently 20-12-3-0 (43 points) on the season and will return to the ice tomorrow when they face the Iowa Wild at 7 p.m. inside the AT&T Center.
