For the first time in a long time this year, San Antonio football fans had something to be excited about with the launch of a new league, the Alliance of American Football. The AAF had selected San Antonio as one of its launch cities and professional football was back in San Antonio with the birth of the San Antonio Commanders.
It didn’t take very long for the city to become enamored with the team, and quickly, the Commanders were setting league-wide attendance records. You would have thought the AAF ownership would think they just struck it rich and hit the jackpot like the one on slotscalendar.com/200-casino-bonuses/, but instead, despite the success in San Antonio, the AAF ceased operations.
So where do the droves of fans go now that San Antonio’s pro football future seems cloudy?
San Antonio has always been a city dominated by the Dallas Cowboys, so many fans will continue watching from home, although the convenience of having the team in your backyard and the atmosphere of attending tail gates and home games in your home city are gone.
Team support is not an online casino bonus
So how about supporting a local team. The options there are limited since it means following a local college or university. The University of Texas at San Antonio is a program fans are excited about and they play in the Alamodome, where the Commanders called home. UTSA also just signed on to play for the next several years against the University of Texas Longhorns, which should bring casual fans out, giving UTSA a chance to reach a new fanbase.
There’s also the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals. With a young coach and a quickly improving team, there’s plenty to be excited about with the young program.
Just about 45 minutes up IH35 are the Texas State Bobcats. Texas State has consistently been making improvements to their stadium and a recent hire of head coach Jake Spavital has the Bobcat faithful brewing.
But say you didn’t attend any of those colleges. They are still a way to be able to get in some high-level football. But those aren’t the only options. You can go out and watch football being played at one of the purest levels.
In San Antonio, and especially in Texas, you can’t seemingly go out on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday without bumping into a Texas High School Football game. There’s nothing quite like high school football in Texas regardless of who’s playing.
So, while the Commanders may be gone, there are still several options for local fans to enjoy the sport.
