Whether it’s an inconceivable secret or a lucky run, the San Antonio Stars are illustrating mastery of the away game. Boasting a 6-3 away record after a defensive slump, coach Dan Hughes suggests that positive progress in weak areas can be a possible cause for their success on the road.

”There is no secret,” Hughes says. ”We have had a couple of good defensive games in a row and that helps you win on the road.”

San Antonio is just 2-5 at the AT&T Center and have dropped four of their last five at home, but that’s a different story on the road. A 74-71 win against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday gave the Stars their fifth straight win away from home.

Aside from improved defensive efforts, the Stars have experienced offensive success from Danielle Robinson, Becky Hammon and Kayla McBride. The big three have been key to away-game wins with their double digit scoring and their ability to make the most of opportunities from the defense.

”We are not distracted on the road at all,” Hammon said. ”We come together nicely and just execute. It’s a good sign for us. We need to do a little better at home, but we will get that figured out.”

The Stars will look to continue their two game win streak when they take on the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday, July 3 at 7 p.m. The Stars have yet to win a game against Minnesota who are currently second in the WNBA Western Conference with a record of 12-5.
