Omar Cummings named NASL Player of the Week

After scoring two goals in Saturday’s win over the Tampa Bay Rowdies, San Antonio Scorpions forward Omar Cummings has been recognized for his efforts.

Cummings was named the NASL (North American Soccer League) Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

In addition to the two goals, the 33-year-old had an assist on the opening goal from Marvin Chavez in the 11th minute of the match. Cummings’ two goals pushed him into the lead for goals in the 2015 season, one ahead of Lance Laing from FC Edmonton.

Prior to joining the Scorpions, Cummings played with the Colorado Rapids and Houston Dynamo in Major League Soccer (MLS). He tallied 42 goals and 30 assists in his MLS career.

The Scorpions are currently 1-0-1 (3 points) on the season and will return to the pitch on Wednesday night to welcome the FC Edmonton Eddies to Toyota Field at 7:30 p.m.
