San Antonio FC (14-2-10) will look to get even closer to the top spot in the Western Conference when they face the Swope Park Rangers (13-7-6) to close out their four-game road trip in Kansas City on Sunday afternoon.
Last time out: SAFC earned a 1-0 win over Orange County SC on Wednesday night thanks to a Ben Newnam free kick in the 55th minute of play. The victory clinched a berth in the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs, the first for San Antonio in franchise history.
Getting points: San Antonio comes into Sunday’s match on a five-game unbeaten streak. SAFC has gone 3-0-2 in their last five matches, earning 11 points out of a possible 15. The point streak has seen SAFC create distance between themselves and both Swope and Reno, who are right behind them in the standings.
Battle for No. 1: SAFC comes into today’s match with 52 points, just four points behind league-leading Real Monarchs SLC with 56. With San Antonio idle on Saturday, Phoenix Rising FC helped out the Alamo City club by defeating Real 2-0. With a win on Sunday, SAFC can climb within one point of the Monarchs.
Against Swope Park: San Antonio will face Swope Park for the final time this season. SAFC has held Swope scoreless in the previous two meetings in 2017, earning a 1-0 win and a point in a 0-0 draw. Overall, SAFC is 1-2-2 all-time against the Rangers.
San Antonio FC and Swope Park Rangers will kick things off at 4 p.m. from Swope Soccer Village.
