ROCKFORD – The San Antonio Rampage shutout the Rockford IceHogs 6-0 in front of 4,533 fans at the BMO Harris Bank Center on Friday evening.
The victory is a welcome sight for the Silver and Black, who gave up a 4-2 lead in Grand Rapids on Wednesday morning. San Antonio’s power play was solid and defensively did not allow the IceHogs to get anything set up on the offensive end. Spencer Martin collected his sixth career shutout in the victory.
San Antonio scored the game-winning goal 10:35 into the opening period when David Warsofsky’s shot from the point went off a Rockford skate and into the net. Andrew Agozzino quickly doubled the Rampage lead three minutes later and Chris Butler tallied his first goal in Silver and Black just before the period ended. The Rampage took a 3-0 lead into the second period.
Warsofsky put home his second of the night while the Rampage were on the power play, giving them a 4-0 lead and their a franchise record fourth power play goal off a one-timer nine minutes into the frame. Mason Geertsen added a late goal for San Antonio, putting them up five heading into the final frame.
Felix Girard closed the scoring for the Rampage 38 seconds into the third period, sealing the 6-0 win.
Martin stopped all 39 Rockford shots in the win, giving him First Star of the Night honors.
Up next: The Rampage are now 8-3-1-0 (17 points) and will return to the ice on Saturday evening when they wrap up their road trip in Chicago against the Wolves at Allstate Arena at 7 p.m.
