Former San Antonio Rampage goaltender Jacob Markstrom will make his return to the friendly confines for the first time since being traded to the Vancouver Canucks last season when the Utica Comets pay the silver and black a visit tonight.
The Rampage (2-0-0-0, 4 points) are off to their best start in seven years after sweeping opening weekend with a pair of 3-2 wins over Iowa and Oklahoma City last weekend. Rookie Rocco Grimaldi tallied his first professional goal and in a big way as it was the game winner in San Antonio’s overtime win over the Barons last Saturday.
Utica (1-0-1-0, 3 points) enter Friday after splitting two games with the Toronto Marlies. The Comets won their opener, but dropped a 3-2 decision to Toronto on Sunday afternoon. Over his career, Markstrom wons a 12-27-5 record with a 3.19 GAA. Rampage fans will remember the 24-year-old for his playoff series against the Chicago Wolves and Barons a few seasons ago.
San Antonio fans will be able to see Marky work his magic again if he suits up tonight, but are hoping he is off his game a bit.
The Rampage and Comets will drop the puck tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the AT&T Center. Check back later for Stephen Anderson’s game recap. Be sure to follow @RampageCentral and @andersonstevem for live updates from the arena.
