SAN ANTONIO – Joey LaLeggia‘s penalty shot lifted the San Antonio Rampage to a 2-1 overtime win over the Milwaukee Admirals (14-9-4) in front of 6,751 fans at the AT&T Center on Saturday night.
The win was the second in the last four games for San Antonio, who also snapped a two-game losing streak.
“It was a good game all around,” Rampage goaltender Jordan Binnington said. “The building was full and I’m happy we got the teddy bears thrown.”
After two scoreless periods, San Antonio finally lit the lamp in the third period. Trevor Smith sent the teddy bears flying on the ice with a goal as he took the pass from Conner Bleackley and beat Milwaukee goaltender Troy Grosenick at 6:32.
Milwaukee evened the score just over five minutes later as Tyler Gaudet‘s shot from the left circle beat Binnington to force overtime.
In the extra frame, LaLeggia was skating in on a breakaway attempt but was hooked from behind. LaLeggia would make the most of his chance as he put the puck between Grosenick’s pads to give San Antonio the 2-1 win.
“I’ve been lucky with teddy bear toss goals,” Smith said. “It was great to get the goal and watch those teddy bears come down.”
