HOUSTON – Incarnate Word opened their three-game road trip with a 60-43 loss to the Rice Owls at Tudor Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
The loss was the fifth straight for UIW and their seventh of their last eight games. A slow started doom the Cardinals, who were held to 26 percent shooting and trailed 16-5 after the first quarter.
UIW was led by freshman guard Sydnee Wynn, who had 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Other freshman Charmaine McBride added 10 points in the loss.
For Rice (6-2), they controlled the game from the opening tip. The Owls led by as many as 14 points in the first half, never trailing. Erika Ogwumike led Rice with 18 points, 7 boards and 2 assists.
Up next: Incarnate Word is now 1-8 on the season and will return to the court on Monday morning to face the Houston Cougars at 11 a.m.
