As the San Antonio Stars get ready to begin the 2015 season, have they solved a problem that has plagued them for years?

Kayla Alexander about to enter her third WNBA season, all in silver and black. In her first two years, she has averaged 2.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Could all that about to change for the better?

In two preseason games, Alexander averaged 8.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg – both are career highs. So what is the change this season? Well, in the words of Allen Iverson – its all about practice. We’re talking about practice.

“We talked about Kayla bringing her practice game to the arena,” Stars head coach Dan Hughes said. “She has worked hard and the results are what you saw.”

Rookie Dearica Hamby had a nice preseason as well. She posted 9.5 points per game and pulled down 7.5 rebounds. Hughes said he wanted to get bigger by bringing her in and he has certainly done that.

“I’m just getting a feel for everything,” Hamby said. “I’m getting more comfortable with the plays and having a better flow offensively, my teammates do a good job of getting me the ball and its my job to finish.”

Center Jayne Appel finished last season with 4.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. With Appel, Alexander and Hamby it looks like silver and black may have solved their problem in the post.

The Stars will open the 2015 season on June 5 against the defending champion Phoenix Mercury before hosting the Tulsa Shock for their home opener on June 14 at Freeman Coliseum.
