Former San Antonio Stars guard Becky Hammon can add another honor to her resume. After being named the first full-time female assistant coach in NBA history, she is going to be honored by her alma mater.

Hammon has been elected to the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2015, it was announced on Tuesday.

“I’m incredibly honored and humbled to be inducted into the Colorado Hall of Fame class of 2015,” Hammon said. “I’m very proud and thankful for my Colorado State University experience and have always considered Colorado a second home. Many Coloradoans have helped in facilitating and assisting me throughout my career, and I’m forever grateful to the wonderful people of Colorado.”

Hammon led the Colorado State Rams to their best season in program history in 1998-99, finishing 33-3 and earning a place in the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. She was also the recipient of the Francis Pomeroy Naismith Award.


Hammon was named one of the WNBA’s Top 15 Players of All Time in 2011 and spent 16 seasons in the WNBA with the New York Liberty (1999-2007) and the Stars (2008-14). She finished the basketball career with averages of 13.1 points, 3.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 27.9 minutes.

Joining Hammon in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame class is Chauncey Billups and Roy Halladay.
