The San Antonio Stars are back in action tonight as they host the Tulsa Shock for their home opener. The Stars are coming off of a back-to-back after suffering a 79-75 loss to the Atlanta Dream on Friday. The Shock have not played yet so far in the 2014 season, but swept San Antonio in two preseason games. Here are 3 things to look for from the Stars
1) The health of Sophia Young-Malcolm. She played well in spurts last night but she could be limited tonight as Head Coach Dan Hughes tries to ease her way back into game shape. She led the team with a game high 12 rebounds.
2) Kayla McBride – The rookie had a tough first game. Tonight will her opportunity to play well in a friendlier environment.
3) Jayne Appel – Jayne Appel had a great 2013 season and was expected to carry that over to 2014. Last night, she disappeared and had only 1 point and ZERO rebounds. San Antonio needs her if they want to win games this season.
The Stars and Shock each played each other 4 times last season and split those 4 meetings. One of them was memorable for the wrong reasons. On September 9, Riquana Williams scored a league record 51 points and Tulsa won in a blowout 96-65. The Stars and Shock meet again 5 times this season. They will see the Shock again on May 28th.
You can catch the game either at the AT&T Center, or on WNBA LiveAccess. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m. local time. Be sure to check back after the game for Stephen Anderson’s post-game report.
