Billy Forbes picked a perfect time to have his best game of the season. The 24-year-old gave the San Antonio Scorpions the lead twice and would lift his team to their first win north of the border for the first time in franchise history.

Forbes netted two goals as the Scorpions earned a 3-2 win over the F.C. Edmonton Eddies in front of 2,236 fans inside Clarke Field on Sunday afternoon.

San Antonio got things started early in the 21st minute when Omar Cummings put home a loose ball past Edmonton goalkeeper Matt VanOekel for his NASL leading fourth goal of the season. The red and black would go into the second half holding the 1-0 lead.

Edmonton began the second have strong and spent the first eight minutes in the San Antonio zone. Daryl Fordyce would tie the game in the 53rd minute who beat San Antonio ‘keeper Daryl Sattler to make it a 1-1 match.

The Scorpions took back the lead just nine minutes when Forbes shot the ball past VanOekel’s reach in the 62nd minute to give the red and black the 2-1 advantage.

Once again, the Eddies answered back to tie the game. Fordyce struck again in the 74th minute when he put home a rebound off a Hanson Boakai shot to tie the game up with less than ten minutes to play.

Forbes put San Antonio ahead for good when he was one-on-one with VanOekel and put the ball out of his reach and into the net. The goal was Forbes second of the night, giving the Scorpions the 3-2 win.

The victory moved the Scorpions up in the standings from last to eighth. They now sit three points out of third place in the NASL standings.

The Scorpions are now 2-1-3 (7 points) on the season and will return to the pitch on Saturday when they face the league leaders New York Cosmos at 6 p.m.
