OKLAHOMA CITY (PSN) — San Antonio FC continued their winning ways on the road on Sunday night, defeating OKC Energy FC (8-9-11) 1-0 at Taft Stadium.
The victory saw SAFC rebound from a home loss to New Mexico last weekend. San Antonio has won four of their last five games and is just a point away from second place in the Mountain Division standings.
“I’m proud of the guys,” SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina said. “This is not an easy place to play. The guys dug deep and created a number of opportunities. We have to be better in our final product…but nonetheless, we achieved the result that we sought after.”
An uneventful first half saw both clubs going into the locker room scoreless after 45 minutes of minimal chances from either side.
San Antonio picked up the attack in the second half with chances from both Jose Gallegos and Justin Dhillon. SAFC broke into the scoring column in the 66th minute when Dhillon sent a flicked pass to Marcus Epps, who put the ball home into the right side of the net.
Oklahoma City had two chances late to level late but Seyi Adekoya’s went off the crossbar and into SAFC goalkeeper Matt Cardone’s hands in the 89th minute.
With the victory, San Antonio moves within a point of Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (44 points) for second in the division and eight points out of first place El Paso Locomotive FC (51 points).
“On the road that’s a huge key for any team,” Epps said. “With our side its always that same mentality every game. On the road it’s not always going to be pretty, it’s not always going to be exactly what you want it to be, but if you execute the principles the results will follow and I think that is what you’re seeing on the road games.”
