HIGHLIGHTS:
PHOENIX – Despite a solid defensive performance, San Antonio FC would fall 0-1 to Phoenix Rising FC (20-2-5) at Casino Arizona Field on Saturday night.
The loss is the second straight for San Antonio, who fell to 13th in the Western Conference.
“Our team came in and played with the right commitment, focus, and intensity throughout the game,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “There were a couple of moments that we’ll continue to improve on, but overall I’m proud of our players and staff for everyone’s efforts.”
Despite several good chances for both teams, the goalkeepers for both sides made some great saves to keep the match scoreless late. The lone goal of the match came off the boot of Phoenix midfielder Solomon Asante in the 87th minute.
“We need to win now,” SAFC midfielder Jack Barmby said. “It’s vital that we win, and we pick up as many points as we can towards the end of the season because it’s getting tighter and we want to be in the playoffs.”
