HIGHLIGHTS:
IRVINE – A solid performance in net by goalkeeper Matt Cardone saw San Antonio FC and Orange County SC play to a scoreless draw at Championship Soccer Stadium on Saturday night.
The draw saw SAFC extend their unbeaten streak to four matches and saw them take four out of six points on the two-game road trip.
“I think the team is getting better week in and week out and we’re gathering some momentum,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “We’ve lost one in our last seven and we’ve put good results together, so we have to keep that momentum going and the guys have to keep being committed on their performances. We’re really pleased with everybody’s intensity this week and we look forward to continuing that next week.”
After a quiet first half, both teams picked it up in the second. Cardone came up big with two saves in the 59th and 62nd minutes respectively. San Antonio had a golden chance in the 71st minute when Frank Lopez took the pass from Jack Barmby but put the shot wide of the net.
20 minutes later, Lopez had a chance to redeem himself and buried a shot into the back of the net. However, the goal was called off due to a foul on Orange County defender Leonardo and he was shown a red card.
