San Antonio FC has signed experienced midfielder Jack Barmby for the 2019 USL Championship season, the club announced on Monday afternoon.

Barmby joins SAFC after spending the 2017 season with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer. He made over 30 appearances both with the MLS side and the Timbers 2 of the USL. Overall, he tallied six goals and three assists with the USL side in 2018.

“Jack is a player that has caught our eye since he joined Portland in 2016,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell in a statement. “He is an exciting player with a very good left foot. He can contribute to our team in several different positions, and we look forward to him helping us on the attacking side of the ball in the 2019 season.”

Barmby helped lead the Timbers 2 to a sixth-place finish in the Western Conference and a playoff appearance a year ago. He also spent six years with Manchester United from 2008, winning three Premier League titles and two league cups.

“I am excited for the upcoming season,” said Barmby via a press release. “I am looking forward to joining the organization and can’t wait to get into the city and get going.”

San Antonio FC will open the 2019 season on March 9 against Phoenix Rising FC at Toyota Field at 7:30 pm Central Time.
