SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women’s basketball team fell 74-33 to Texas State at the McDermott Center on Tuesday night in the team’s home opener for the 2017-18 season.
UIW came out flat to start the game, trailing 22-9 after the first quarter. Texas State (2-0) used a three-point barrage to put the contest away by halftime. The Bobcats hit six consecutive three pointers and led 43-23 at the break.
The second half belonged to Texas State on both ends of the floor. Junior guard Toshua Leavitt scored 20 points in the game, with 17 coming in the first half. Meanwhile, senior forward Erika May chipped in 11 rebounds. The Bobcats outscored the Cardinals 19-4 in the fourth quarter to leave no doubt of who would come out on top.
Texas State’s win saw them improve to 3-0 for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
The Cardinals struggled all night long against Texas State’s defense. UIW scored just 10 points in the second half and shot 5-for-30 in the final two quarters, scoring a season-low 33 points.
UIW was led by guard Gabbi Bowie’s nine points, while forward Sydnee Wynn pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.

Texas State (3-0) will stay on the road and take on the TCU Horned Frogs (2-0) on at Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena Saturday afternoon with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
Incarnate Word (0-3) will stay home and welcome The University of Mary Hardin–Baylor (1-0) to the McDermott Center next Monday at 6 p.m.
