SALT LAKE CITY – The Incarnate Word Cardinals kicked off a back-to-back set with a 90-31 loss the Utah Utes at the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Friday afternoon.
This Friday was anything but good for the ladies from UIW, who struggled offensively all night long. The Cardinals shot just 18.2 percent from the floor in the opening quarter as they trailed 14-4 after the first quarter and never recovered.
No one was in double digits for UIW, who went 0-of-7 from three point range. Freshman Liz Holter led the Cardinals in scoring with nine points on 2-for-5 shooting, while junior center Gabbi Bowie added seven points.
Utah (4-1) was in control all day long, outscoring the Cardinals 27-8 in the second quarter. Emily Potter paced the Utes with 21 points and Kiana Moore chipped in 14 off the bench.
The loss was the third in the last four games for the Cardinals, who scored a season-low 31 points.
Up next: Incarnate Word is now 1-4 on the season and will return to the court on Saturday afternoon when they wrap up their road trip with a game against Weber State at 3 p.m.
