San Antonio FC returns home still undefeated after a 4-0 win over Portland Timbers 2 to wrap up a three-game road trip on Friday night.
Billy Forbes got SAFC on the scoreboard in the 20th minute when he placed a shot into the far post of the goal to put the visiting side up by a goal. Cesar Elizondo put San Antonio up 2-0 in the 34th minute with a perfect shot past Portland’s keeper as SAFC took a two goal lead into the locker room.
San Antonio held strong despite some late pressure from Portland. SAFC sealed the win with back-to-back goals in stoppage time from Zachary Herivaux and Elizondo to make it 4-0.
The win extends the unbeaten streak to seven straight for San Antonio, who finished a stretch of three games in seven days.
“First and foremost, our players’ collective defensive effort was superb tonight,” SAFC coach Darren Powell said. “When you only have a few days rest in a week, it’s pleasing to see the guys work that hard and manage the game in such a professional manner.”
Player of the Game:
Cesar Elizondo is RB90’s Player of the Game. His two goals were key in SAFC’s win and could be proof of more to come, assisting Billy Forbes in the scoring column.
“I feel great for the team,” he said of his two goals. “We’ve been on the road this whole week and it has brought us closer together, and I think that’s very important. Now we go home, we go happy and we go proud as well.”
Up next: San Antonio FC is now 6-0-1 (19 points) on the season and will return home to welcome Sacramento Republic FC to Toyota Field as they open a three-game homestand beginning next Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
