
The San Antonio Rampage have said despite not being in the playoff picture, they want to finish the season strong. The Silver and Black took another chance towards that goal with a dominant third period, resulting in their fifth straight win.
The Rampage scored three goals in the third period and defeated the Rockford IceHogs 5-2 in front of 5,180 fans inside the BMO Harris Bank Center on Friday night.
Rockford struck first with a goal from Pierre-Cedric Labrie late in the opening period to carry a one goal lead into the second period.
San Antonio would tie the game up at one goal apiece with a Maxim Noreau tally at 7:41. With the Rampage on a power play, Rockford would take back the lead with a short-handed tally from Chris DeSousa just over two minutes later. Garry Nunn answered back for San Antonio with 21 seconds left in the frame to make it 2-2 going into the final period.
The Silver and Black took control in the third period. Garrett Thompson gave San Antonio the lead for good just over two minutes into the frame. Trevor Cheek and Borna Rendulic each added two more goals to seal the 5-2 win for the Rampage.
San Antonio finished 1-for-3 on the power play, while Rockford was 0-for-4 on the night. Reto Berra stopped all but two shots he faced in the win.
The Rampage are now 29-33-8-0 on the season and will return to the ice tomorrow night when they travel to Milwaukee for the last time this year to face the Admirals at 7 p.m.
