Excitement is in the air amid San Antonio Rampage players, coaches, and fans as they look to opening night of their 14th season of hockey in the Alamo City tonight at 7 p.m.
Since the announcement of the 5-year agreement between the Colorado Avalanche and the San Antonio Rampage this April, so many have wondered what this new face of the rampage might look like, and tonight, they’ll finally find out.
“They’re excited,” said Rampage head coach Dean Chynoweth. “I’ve talked to all of them. We told them last year when the move was happening, that this was going to happen, and that we were fortunate enough to have a contract or be a part of it moving forward. That it was going to be a tremendous set up.”
Not only is Chynoweth excited about starting off the season in San Antonio, but the players are chiming in as well.
“We’ve got a pretty deep group… a lot of new guys,” said Troy Bourke, a second year forward for the Rampage. “I’m excited for the year to come, and there’s definitely a lot of talent.”
Spencer Martin also had a few words to say about his feelings about playing in San Antonio this year.
“It’s been great!” said the Rampage goalie who recalled visiting San Antonio back while he was playing with the Lake Erie Monsters, the Avalanche’s previous affiliate before the deal with the Rampage.
“I knew the city was great, but so far, you know, I love my first skate, and they’re taking really good care of us at the hotel so far… I’m really happy how it’s turned out here, and feeling good here, and just excited to get it going.”
In addition to their excitement about being in a new place, the team is looking forward to playing in front of a San Antonio crowd.
“Not only is the area great,” Chynoweth said, “they were in the top, I think, last year what, top seven in attendance in the league?”
Let’s hope that those fans make sure to go out and support tonight while the Rampage take on the Stockton Heat at 7 p.m.
