The San Antonio Rampage may have a new team, but they continued their winning ways from last season as they opened the preseason to prepare for a new season.
The Rampage opened the 2015 preseason slate with a 4-3 win over the Texas Stars inside the Cedar Park Center on Friday evening.
San Antonio struck first when Troy Bourke put home a rebound past the glove of Texas goaltender Maxime Legace midway through the first period to put the Rampage up 1-0. However, two goals from Branden Troock gave the Stars the 2-1 advantage going into the second period.
Andreas Martinsen opened the scoring in the second period as he beat Legace with the Rampage on the power play to even the score at two apiece. Brock Montgomery put the Silver and Black on top for the second time with a tally at 11:54 and Ben Street’s breakaway goal put San Antonio up 4-2 going into the third period.
Texas pulled backup goaltender Philippe Desrosiers and Mangene scored with 2:10 to play, but the Rampage held on for the 4-3 win.
San Antonio goaltenders Roman Will and Spencer Martin combined to stop 27 of 30 Texas shots in the win.
The Rampage are 1-0-0-0 in preseason play and will close out the preseason on Sunday afternoon when they play the Texas Stars in rematch at 3 p.m. inside the Cedar Park Center.
