
AT&T Center – The San Antonio Rampage had their offense in high gear over the weekend and it did not miss a beat in their weekday game against their in-state rival Texas Stars.
The Rampage (23-13-3-0) used a strong second period to pull away as they earned a 5-2 win over the Stars (16-15-9-0) in front of an announced crowd of 3,519 fans at the AT&T Center on Tuesday evening.
Texas got the scoring started just 4:40 into the game when Jesse Root deflected in a shot off Cameron Gaunce’s stick past San Antonio goaltender Dan Ellis to put the Stars up 1-0. The Rampage responded two minutes later when Ryan Martindale backhanded a shot past Stars netminder Jack Campbell to tie the game 1-1 going into the second period.
San Antonio scored two goals in over a minute to take a commanding two-goal lead in the middle frame. Connor Brickley punched home a rebound and Logan Shaw added a tally to give the Rampage a 3-1 lead going into the final period.
Corban Knight got this first goal in Silver and Black 1:43 into the period as he backhanded a shot past Campbell. Bobby Butler scored his team-leading 17th goal of the season at 2:45 to give San Antonio a 5-1 lead. Texas stopped the bleeding at 8:55 when Scott Glennie connected on a power play goal to make it 5-2, which would stand as the final score.
Ellis made 22 of 24 saves in the win and Campbell stopped 21 of 26 shots. Texas was 1-for-7 on the power play, while San Antonio could not conver on two of their man advantage opportunities.
The Rampage will now hit the road to take on the Lake Erie Monsters for a two-game series beginning on Thursday at 6 p.m. inside the Quicken Loans Arena.
