
The San Antonio Rampage entered Thursday with a perfect 11-0-1-0 record against the West Division. However, all good things must come to an end as the Silver and Black’s perfect run at the hands of the lowly Iowa Wild.
The Rampage suffered a 4-1 loss to the Wild (7-15-1-1, 16 points) in front of 3,587 fans inside the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night despite outshooting them 13-5 in the third period.
After a scoreless first period, the home team got on the scoreboard in the second before fans could even settle into their seats. Brett Sutter lit the lamp just 24 seconds into the middle frame as he sent a shot past San Antonio goaltender Michael Houser to put the Wild up 1-0.
The Rampage tied the game when Ryan Martindale scored a breakaway shorthanded goal that found its way past Iowa netminder John Curry just two minutes later to knot the game 1-1 going into the third period.
Michael Keranen gave the Wild the lead for good with a power play goal at 5:42 of the third period to make it 2-1 in favor of the home team. Sutter tallied his second goal of the night when he tipped in Jonathan Blum’s shot past Houser to give Iowa the two goal lead. Brady Brassart completed the scoring and sealed the 4-1 win for the Wild with an empty-net goal at 19:32.
Houser finished the game with 16 saves on 19 Iowa shots and Curry made 33 saves on 34 San Antonio shots. The Wild finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Silver and Black were 0-for-2 on the man advantage.
The Rampage are now 14-8-2-0 (30 points) on the season and will return to the ice tomorrow (Friday) night for a rematch with the Wild at 7 p.m. inside the Wells Fargo Center.
