After a poor effort on Friday evening, San Antonio Rampage head coach Tom Rowe challenged his team to play better. He put special emphasis on the defensive end and the next night the team got the message loud and clear.
San Antonio goaltender Dan Ellis stopped all 30 shots he faced as the Rampage (15-8-2-0) defeated the Iowa Wild (7-16-1-1) 3-0 in front of 6,521 inside the Wells Fargo Center on Friday evening.
San Antonio opened the scoring just over midway through the opening period, taking a lead they would not give up. Connor Brickley lit the lamp as he tipped in a Mark Mancari shot past Iowa goaltender John Curry to put the Silver and Black up 1-0.
Mackenzie Weegar scored his first professional goal in the second period when he blasted a one-timer from the blue line to give the Rampage a two goal lead. Then Bobby Butler sealed the 3-0 win for the Silver and Black with a steal and tally in the third stanza.
Curry made 28 saves on the 31 shots he faced. Iowa finished 0-for-3 on the power play and San Antonio was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
The Rampage will have a week off before continuing their road trip. The team will return to the ice next Friday evening for a contest with the Charlotte Checkers at 7 p.m. inside Time Warner Cable Arena.
