The San Antonio Rampage can now look ahead to the games that count. After Sunday’s game in the Austin suburbs, they may want the regular season to start as soon as possible.
Mark Mancari picked up a goal, but it was not enough as the Rampage fell 6-1 to the Texas Stars inside the Cedar Park Center in their preseason finale on Sunday afternoon.
Texas lit the lamp midway through the opening period when John Klingberg sent a wrist shot past San Antonio netminder Michael Houser to give the Stars the 1-0 advantage and they would take the one-goal lead into the first intermission.
The Stars extended their lead when Curtis McKenzie got the puck from the right circle and beat Houser to put Texas up 2-0 at 6:56 of the second period. A pair of goals from Maxime Fortunus later in the period would give the Stars a 4-0 advantage heading into the third.
Mancari finally got the Rampage on the board while San Antonio was on a 5-on-3 power-play advantage to cut the Stars’ lead to 4-1 in the third period.
Justin Dowling extended the Stars lead to 5-1 when he sent a wrist shot from the slot past Rampage backup goaltender Sam Brittain at 14:51. Radek Faksa put the finishing touches on Texas’ win with an empty-net goal to seal the 6-1 win for the Stars.
Houser, who had Saturday’s game off stopped 13 of 17 shots he faced in 40 minutes of action. San Antonio finished the game 1-for-7 on the power-play and were 1-of-13 in two preseason games.
The Rampage end preseason play with a record of 1-1 and will return to the ice on Friday when they open the 2014-15 season against the Iowa Wild at the AT&T Center at 7 p.m.
