Stars try to avoid elimination in Game 2

The San Antonio Stars are in action tonight as they host the Minnesota Lynx in a pivotal Game 2 in a best-of-three series. The Stars currently trail in the series, down 0-1. With a loss, the Stars would be eliminated and would have not won a playoff series since losing the 2008 WNBA finals. With a win, the Stars can extend the series to Tuesday and give themselves a fighting shot to win the series and extend Becky Hammon’s career.

THREE KEYS TO A WIN

1.  Take care of the ball – In game one, the Lynx were all over the Stars in terms of turnovers which led to them scoring easily. San Antonio also committed some unforced turnovers in the first half, some of which could have helped turn the tide on Game 1.

2.  Rebound – It’s one of the Stars worst glaring weaknesses of this roster yet they have to do a better job rebounding. They also have to make sure that the Lynx don’t get many second chance points off of offensive rebounding. Every San Antonio Star player should be on the glass, making sure that the Lynx don’t get the ball back.

3. Jia Perkins – Jia Perkins needs to have the game of her life. Seriously. She is such a potent offensive weapon and when she’s on her game, it pushes the Stars to play better and the Lynx also have to guard her as well as the starters.

CONGRATS

A big congratulations goes out to Becky Hammon for winning the Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award for 2014. Becky led in votes with 24 and will recieve her trophy prior to the start of the game.
