San Antonio FC defender Ben Newnam will miss the club’s next three matches after being suspended by the USL.

The league made the official announcement on Thursday afternoon. Newnam was given a red card in the first half of last Saturday’s 0-1 defeat to Rio Grande Valley FC Toros when he kicked RGV’s Jose Escalante in the back of the head after the whistle.

As a result Newnam will miss SAFC’s final road match on Saturday against Tulsa Roughnecks FC as well as the club’s next two home matches against the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Portland Timbers 2.

San Antonio FC is currently fighting for a top four finish in the Western Conference standings. Coming into play this weekend, SAFC sits fourth with 52 points. That is two behind third place Swope Park and three back of second place Reno 1868 FC.

Newnam will be available to play in the regular season finale against Rio Grande Valley Toros FC.
