With the 2018 USL season just over three weeks away, San Antonio FC is looking to complete their goal of bringing a USL championship to the Alamo City.

Last October, SAFC fell in penalty kicks to OKC Energy FC in the Western Conference Semifinals. A little over four months later, that memory is still in the head of San Antonio FC midfielder Kris Tyrpak.

“We owe it to the fans,” he said. “Losing on PKs is always a heartbreak. So hopefully this year we can take home field advantage all the way through the playoffs and not get anywhere close to penalties.”

You can hear Tyrpak’s full media day interview below:

One reason for SAFC’s success in 2017 was their defense. San Antonio had the top-ranked defense and led the league in clean sheets. SAFC lost reigning USL Defender of the Year Sebastien Ibeagha to NYCFC but gained veteran Chris Christian.

However, don’t expect SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell to stop with signings just because training is in full swing.

“We’re always looking to add to our roster,” Powell said.

Finally, SAFC team captain, academy coach, and part-time broadcaster Ryan Roushandel said he is looking forward to seeing what the team can put forward in 2018. He even cited the 2017 playoff loss and what it means moving forward.

San Antonio FC will open their third season in the Alamo City on Saturday, March 17 in Sacramento before returning to Toyota Field to host Saint Louis FC on March 24 at 7:30 p.m. for the clubs home opener.
