The American Hockey League’s expansion to California is in full swing, it is expected that several National Hockey League teams will want to switch their AHL affiliates. The move would make things easier when players are called up and sent down and one of those teams is well known by the San Antonio Rampage and their fans.
According to FOX Sports, the Arizona Coyotes are exploring the possibility of moving their affiliation back to the Alamo City. They currently are affiliated with the Portland Pirates after signing a new one-year agreement last May. However, the Pirates want to stay in Portland and that is just about far away as you can get from Arizona.
The Coyotes are also looking towards the East for their affiliation options and would likely seek a one-year deal with the Silver and Black. The deal would give the Coyotes time to locate an affiliate in Arizona. The Colorado Avalanche are also reportedly interested affiliating with San Antonio as well. The Rampage previously were affiliated with the Coyotes from 2005-2011.
The option of San Antonio makes sense for the Coyotes. But right now, it’s a matter of wait and see.
