The American Hockey League will have some new rules when the puck drops on the 2015-16 season this fall. Those new rules include overtime and the new coaches video challenge. Also confirmed and approved is the new playoff format.

The 2015-16 regular season will see a total of 1,120 games played between October 9-April 17. All teams will play a total of 76 games, except the California teams in the Pacific division. Bakersfield, Ontario, San Diego, San Jose, Stockton will all play 68 games.

The four teams in each division ranked by points percentage will clinch a playoff berth.

During the regular season, sudden death overtime will be five minutes instead of seven and will be played 3-on-3.

Finally, teams may use a “coach’s challenge” for a video review.

The puck will drop on the 2015-16 season in October.
