Maybe you felt it after two games at Toyota Field.

San Antonio FC set out last season to make a mark in the Alamo City’s soccer community and missed the playoffs by one game. As the club prepared to open its second season, they wanted to show their second season in the USL is different.

They have done that after just three games. After beating their in-state rivals RGV Toros FC, they opened their home portion of their 2017 schedule with a 3-0 clean sheet over LA Galaxy II. SAFC followed that up by rallying back for a 1-1 draw against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Last season, going down early proved to be deadly for San Antonio, but coach Darren Powell says he isn’t focused on that.

“Last season is just that..last season,” he said after Saturday’s draw against Colorado. “We can’t focus on what he did or did not do last year. This is a new team, new players and new goals. We can’t compare every stat to what he did a year ago.”

Fans have packed Toyota Field, selling out their home opener and filling over 6,000 fans for Saturday’s match against Colorado. The buzz is different, there is no denying it.

“If we can stay healthy, we can do something special,” SAFC midfielder Billy Forbes said after the clubs home opener against LA.

And he is right.

The team is on their way to something special this season. It is in the air.
