#22 UTSA Trails UAB 24-17 at the Half

The UTSA Roadrunners find themselves trailing 24-17 at the half as the UAB Blazers come into the Alamodome for a winner take all Western Division C-USA match-up.  This is the first time the Runners have trailed at home at the half in this historic 2021 season.

The game is playing out to be a slugfest where every possession counts with team stats like First Downs (UTSA 11/ UAB 12) and time of possession (UTSA 14:41/ UAB 15:19) are fairly even.

a-Blaze-ing Offense

UAB has racked up 151 yards on the ground and 198 yards passing.

The Blazers first drive ended with a 74 yard touchdown pass From Dylan Hopkins to Trea Shropshire on their second play from scrimmage.

After punting with their second possession, UAB scored with another Hopkins to Shropshire pass, this one for 40 yards.

Hopkins also ran the ball in from 8 yards out.  UAB kicked a 23 yard field goal as time expired to push their score to 24.

Runners High

The Roadrunners have only 31 rushing yards and 149 yards in the air.

UTSA was forced to punt on their first possession. However, Frank Harris hooked up with Zakhari Franklin on a one handed touchdown grab from 15 yards out. Harris has 11 completions on 12 attempts for all 149 of the Runners passing yards.

Sincere McCormick scored on an 8 yard touchdown run later in the half. McCormick has carried the ball 16 times for 51 yards averaging 3.2 yards per carry.

JT Clark leads the receivers with 3 catches for 55 yards.

The Roadrunners Special Teams have made an impact on the game.  With the offense struggling deep in their own territory in the first quarter, UTSA Punter Lucas Dean set a school record with a 73 yard punt to force UAB to their own 12 yard line.  It would be too much for the Blazers and the possession would end with a punt.

Late in the second quarter, the UTSA offense stalled out and Hunter Duplessis knocked through a 51 yard field goal to cut the UAB lead.
